Water Studies

Controlled droplets and liquid forms become temporary sculptures of colour, gravity, and timing.

Water Studies isolates one of Kwok’s essential materials.

Water Studies isolates one of Kwok’s essential materials. In these pictures, liquid is treated as sculpture: upright columns, suspended droplets, arcs, peaks, and bodily forms appear for less than a blink before collapsing. The saturated colour fields remove ordinary context and allow the viewer to study water as line, volume, and gesture.

The photographs are technical, but they are not cold. Each image has a character of its own: Green Orb is poised, Blue Column is upright and figurative, Magenta Collision is dense and electric, and Orange Droplet is built around suspense. Together they show how a controlled experiment can become a lyrical body of work.
