Repetition and labour turn a worksite into a field of circles.

Artwork Details
Coil Field is a documentary photograph built from repetition. Circular coils fill the frame in orderly rows while a single worker appears near the upper centre, bending into the pattern. The image is monochrome, which emphasizes shape, labour, and scale over colour. Kwok often finds abstraction inside real work, and this photograph is a clear example: the site remains specific, yet the repeated circles create a visual field that feels almost ceremonial. The worker’s presence prevents the pattern from becoming anonymous. A human body is still making, arranging, and tending the forms. In the Monochrome Documentary group, Coil Field connects landscape, labour, and design. It shows how an ordinary work process can become a composition of remarkable discipline when seen from the right distance.
